Local Starbucks Team Members Show Their Support for I CAN WE CAN

In the summer of 2012 Keri Clark, the manager of a local Starbucks, approached AWBW to find out how her store and others in the area might be able to support the work we do. They began by holding a 12-store art supply drive for the month of October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each store asked their customers to donate art supplies, all of which go directly to the shelters we serve. By the end of the month, Starbucks had collected over $1,000 worth of art supplies, and galvanized a considerable amount of community interest and support for AWBW!

Thanks to the success of the art supply drive and their passion to serve, various Starbucks employees decided to further their relationship with AWBW by joining with I CAN WE CAN and making their pledge to help end domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities. It has been so wonderful to partner with Starbucks for this project and experience their creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment to spread the word and help others. Starbucks team members have come in for three different workshops, and have played an important role in the development of the I CAN WE CAN project, acting as our test group and helping with the evolution of the community workshop.

The I CANs that Starbucks team members created are inspiring and beautiful. Here are just some of their hands and words they shared with us:

As a manager at Starbucks, I was excited to be a part of this experience and know that I am helping put my piece into this movement, but it wasn’t until I did this workshop that I stopped and really thought about the impact I can TRULY have and how we can all have an even bigger impact moving forward.

I CAN share this with my loved ones! This has become a labor of love for me, and I know it will be for them.
